Burned and Rebuilt? · Newcastle, Canada
Great Fire of 1922
The open question
The fire took the old town, and something grander went up within a few years. Who had the money, the masons and the stone ready that fast?
On the record
Over two days, the fire consumed an area of 1,680 square kilometres (650 sq mi), affecting 18 townships in Ontario. It was later rebuilt and a plaque was placed to commemorate the fire.
