Burned and Rebuilt? · Umeå, Sweden
Umeå city fire
The open question
The fire took the old town, and something grander went up within a few years. Who had the money, the masons and the stone ready that fast?
On the record
The unusual windy weather conditions also contributed to two other fires on the same day in Sweden. The Umeå Town Hall was rebuilt on the original site to a design by Fredrik Olaus Lindström.
