Great Sphinx buried to the shoulders
The open question
If sand can bury the Sphinx in a few centuries, what about everything smaller around it?
On the record
Drifting sand buried the Sphinx up to its shoulders more than once. It was cleared in the first century AD, re-excavated in 1925, and Émile Baraize dug in 1931–32. No contemporary inscription ties it to Khafre.
