Luxor Temple and the mosque on top
The open question
People were living and praying on top of a temple without knowing how deep it went. Could our cities be the same?
On the record
Rubbish and earth buried three-quarters of the temple, and a village grew over it. The Abu Haggag Mosque still stands on the old columns, its door high above the cleared temple floor.
