Basilica and Convent of San Francisco, Lima
The open question
Miles of passages carved by hand for the dead. How many people, and how many years, did that take?
On the record
The Basilica and Convent of San Francisco is a Catholic church building located in the Historic Centre of Lima, Peru. It is a rectangular piece, measuring 22 metres (72 ft) long by 12 metres (39 ft) wide, where an impressive Baroque choir stalls, carved in cedar, which extends on both sides, are preserved. During these efforts, the crypt of the former Church of Our Lady of Solitude—demolished in 1669—was discovered.
