Protestant Children's Home

The open question

A big building for children with no family. Why were there so many orphans in peacetime?

On the record

The Protestant Children's Home was built for the Protestant Orphan Asylum Society, established on December 2, 1839, by women of various Protestant denominations for the care of Protestant children without parents. Designed by Henry Moffatt, a Philadelphia architect, the cornerstone for the orphanage was laid on July 4, 1845.
